Adult Education

At Temple Sinai, we are committed to life-long Jewish learning, and we work to provide thought-provoking, engaging programs for our adult community.  Our array of programs is always changing based on opportunities in the community and interests expressed by our members.  Share your interests with us – we want to plan programs that meet our members’ interests!

Temple Sinai invites Jewish choices for all – Jewish or not, for both interfaith and Jewish families. We welcome, educate and offer support to all people who are new to Jewish living either through marriage, conversion, or any born Jew who would like to learn more about practicing Judaism. Temple Sinai opens its doors to anyone seeking a place for themselves among the Jewish community.

Some popular parts of our adult and whole-family education programs include:

  • “Travel the Jewish World” – a virtual tour of Jewish life in countries throughout the world, with a region-relevant meal provided for members who attend in person for discussion and noshing!
  • “Torah Study” – Offered both in-person and virtually, our rotating group of clergy and lay leaders make torah study accessible for all members, without you needing to come as a torah scholar or being able to read Hebrew.  These programs focus on the weekly torah portion as well as themes found in the torah.
  • “BeAware Training” – Offered in-person in conjunction with the Secure Community Network and the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, this program teaches participants several strategies of situational awareness so they can be more aware of their surroundings in an ever-changing world.
  • “Bus Trip to New York City” – This fun day allows participants to get a taste of several classic Jewish eateries in Manhattan, tour the Tenement Museum and several notable synagogues, and more!
  • Responding to Antisemitism and Hate Crimes – This panel discussion included the US Attorney for Connecticut, law enforcement officials, and other experts who taught participants how to identify hate crimes and respond when they happen.
  • Author Talks and Book Signings – Author Joan Leegant visited Temple Sinai to share her new collection of stories with us.
  • Drum Circle – Members came together to learn drumming skills and several Judaic songs.
  • Adult Choir – Our adult choir learns beautiful Jewish melodies to enhance our Shabbat services and high holiday services.

In addition to structured programs, we have social programs for adults as well, such as a Tuesday Shmoozeday, Mah jongg, Grown and Flown, apple picking, and more!

We invite your participation. Please contact the Temple Sinai office for more information or to join our program of Adult Studies.
