Our NUTSY (Newington United for Temple Sinai Youth) youth program encourages kids to be themselves, to develop as leaders, and to develop a strong sense of Jewish identity, all while having tons of fun and hands-on learning.
We know how important it is for our youngest members to have engaging opportunities to explore the world around them through a Jewish lens. They’ll connect to each other, with their clergy and advisors, and grow in so many ways.
Our Youth Director strives to create a positive circle of Jewish life for each and every child, in fact, our youth groups have grown in popularity and participation because of the multi-faceted programming that includes religious, social, cultural, athletic and social action activities. Programs vary from baking pies for our neighbors in need, to blowing off steam from school tests with friends at an ax throwing program or the arcade, to tasting their way through the always favorite chocolate Seder during Passover.
We organize NUTSY into a Junior group (grades 5-8) and Senior group (grades 9-12). NUTSY Jr is a place for middle schoolers to learn, grow, and play while they study for their B’nai Mitzvahs. NUTSY Sr focuses on leadership, personal development of their Jewish identity, and social action. There are times throughout the year the groups have joint activities and both groups have opportunities to contribute their personal skills by joining the NUTSY board.
As a URJ affiliated synagogue, Temple Sinai teens who participate in NUTSY are automatically members of NFTY (North American Federation for Temple youth) at a National level, and NFTY-NE (Northeast Region) at a regional level. The junior and senior youth groups also organize and participate in local events with other youth groups in the Greater Hartford area, including USY, JTConnect, and other URJ affiliated congregations.
