At Temple Sinai, we look to enrich and engage students through a spiraling curriculum that explores holidays and traditions from different aspects year to year rather than simply repeating what students may already know.
With a focus on Hebrew, holidays and rituals as well as foods, music, tzedakah that supports social good, we don’t just discuss our values… we live them.
We practice Yes In MY Backyard (YIMBY), finding opportunities to explore our faith and values beyond the 4 walls of our school. We partner with the greater Hartford community to create events with partner temples, searching for kosher seals on food, discovering Jewish artists in museums, and other ways to recognize that we are always Jewish, not just when we are in the temple.
Where it all begins
We offer several opportunities to bring in the whole family with special programs and monthly family Friday night services showcasing a specific grade but open to all.
For young families, we offer free preschool (ages 3-4) and Kindergarten programs to make early learning accessible to all without making a firm commitment to becoming a member, although most families choose to stay.
There is also a Temple Tots program (ages 2-5) for 30 minute sessions monthly for our learners who need a short session with a focus on hands-on activities.
Our talent speaks for itself
Many of our teachers also teach in public school and/or have mental and behavioral health training so we can meet the needs of all styles of learners.
Post Bar & Bat Mitzvah Opportunities for Students
For our older students, we encourage them to become teen aides in the classroom to learn leadership skills.
We also offer JTConnect at Temple Sinai, so students can engage with other Jewish students in the community. This provides opportunities to expand their social action and leadership skills. The goal is to support confident young Jews who can stand as proud adults in their communities.
